If you want a guy who is real real passionate about catching fish, be it out to sea aboard his charter boat Out of the Blue or stalking trout up one of our local rivers in Hawkes Bay, Tony Hildesheim is your man.

I have been boat fishing out of Napier for over 12 years. Catching all species of fish from snapper to yellow fin tuna. It is now 3 1/2 years that I have been operating my fishing charter business in Hawkes Bay and I am proud to have many satisfied and lot’s of repeat customers.

My trout fishing obsession started back in the 70’s, where in form 1 & 2 at Lindisfarne College school Hastings, we had Mr Tony Orman as our fishing club teacher, our favourite subject.
My father, Bert was also a very keen trout fisherman. I still have many very fond memories of him taking a friend and I up to the old Sandy Creek river mouth delta at the northern end of Lake Tutira, where 8 to 10 trout being hooked in a day were not uncommon.

With New Zealand having so many excellent rivers and such nice undevoloped country side, I see great potential for me to build-up the trout fishing side of my business. It really gives my a buzz to take customers to some of the most beautiful rivers in the world and for them to catch and release that wonderful fish the Trout.

We offer 3 different types of boat fishing:

  • Bottom fishing : We anchor the boat over a good fishing spot X and catch fish that feed close to the sea bed in dephts of 15 to 100 metres. The main target species are snapper, terakihi, garnard, kahawai, kingfish and hapuka. Suits all ages and levels of experience. All fishing gear provided.
  • Game fishing : Our season runs from December to March. Most of our fish are caught trolling lures or live baiting, our main target gamefish is Tuna, Albacore, Skipjack and Yellow-fin. Some seasons there are nice Yellow-Fin Tuna feeding in Hawke Bay. The 2004/2005 season produced 3 Hawkes Bay Sport Fishing Club records on yellow-fin, the heaviest being 72.8 kg. There was also about 7 marlin weigh in that season.
  • Saltwater fly fishing : Cast a fly from the boat into a big work up of kahawai or tuna. An absolute blast when hooked up, lots of patience needed. kahawai and Tuna are very good eating fish, so we can fillet a few up for you to take home. Suits half day charter.
